Manchester City take on Borussia Dortmund tonight at the Etihad Stadium. The match is City’s fourth match of the UEFA Champions League league phase, and if they can pick up three points, it will position them well for what lies ahead. City take on a Borussia Dortmund side that currently sits 8th on the Champions League league phase table. Dortmund has started their Champions League campaign well and will be no pushover tonight at the Etihad.

Here is the latest Manchester City injury news and my predicted City starting eleven ahead of tonight’s match.

Latest Manchester City injury news.

Mateo Kovacic will miss tonight’s match and will be sidelined for some time after sustaining an ankle injury. The Croatian midfielder has suffered a frustrating setback after having Achilles surgery at the end of last season. It is a blow for Pep Guardiola’s side to lose the experienced midfielder for such a prolonged period.

Outside of Mateo Kovacic, the City squad is in good shape from a fitness point of view. Pep Guardiola gave his squad yesterday off to rest ahead of what looms as a big week for his team.

Predicted City starting eleven.

Gianluigi Donnarumma: Donnarumma is almost certain to start in goal tonight.

Matheus Nunes: I could see Abdukodir Khusanov starting at right-back tonight, but Nunes is sparkling form and deserves to keep his position.

Ruben Dias: There seems to be little chance of Dias being rested, so I expect he and Gvardiol start at centre-back tonight.

Josko Gvardiol: See above, and I also believe Gvardiol needs to keep playing to regain his touch.

Nico O’Reilly: Frankly, Nico O’Reilly deserves to hold his place, and the only way I can see him not starting tonight is if Pep Guardiola wants to give Rayan Ait-Nouri a start.

Nico: Unless Rodri is deemed fit enough to start, I think Nico will keep his place in the heart of Manchester City’s midfield. Frankly, he deserves to given how well he has played of late.

Tijjani Reijnders: I can see Bernardo Silva being saved for Sunday’s match against Liverpool. If that occurs, I feel that Reijnders will start.

Phil Foden: Another player who seems to be a certain starter tonight.

Rayan Cherki: Cherki is in superb form, and as long as he is ready to start his third game in a week I can see the French international starting against Borussia Dortmund tonight.

Omar Marmoush: Marmoush needs minutes in his legs and I can see Jeremy Doku being saved for Sunday. Tonight’s match may be the ideal opportunity for Marmoush to play from the start.

Erling Haaland: Haaland is a certain starter tonight against his former team.
