In a recent report, journalist Fraser Fletcher mentioned that Manchester United are eyeing a move for Elche defender David Affengruber. It is understood that the Red Devils are eager to bring the Austrian centre-back to Old Trafford next year.
Affengruber has enjoyed a decent run of form at the Spanish club in this campaign so far as he has put in a string of impressive displays for them in La Liga. The 24-year-old has made 15 appearances for Elche this season across multiple competitions.
The Austrian talent has been a rock at the back and deserves credit for making 30 tackles, 13 blocks, 23 interceptions and 81 clearances in La Liga. He has even distributed possession relatively well from inside his half, based on his pass completion rate of 87.5% in the Spanish first division (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the La Liga club will run out in the summer of 2027, which could open the door for the Red Devils to sign him on the cheap next year.

Affengruber is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can use his strong 1.85m frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his side.
However, there are some concerns over whether the Austrian talent can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if the Red Devils manage to bring him on board next year.
Affengruber would inject more quality and depth into Man United head coach Ruben Amorim’s defence. He has what it takes to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the Mancunian club in the coming years.
At 24, Affengruber has got his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent option for the Mancunian giants to consider this winter or at the end of this campaign. However, Amorim has to give him some time to settle into life in England before he can get the best out of the talented defender at the Mancunian club.
