Manchester United staff have lobbied interim manager Michael Carrick to talk up Bruno Fernandes’ player of the year chances, according to the Sun.

The Man United midfielder has the most assists (18) in the Premier League this season and has also weighed in with eight goals in 30 appearances.

He has been one of the best players in the English top-flight this term, but the Red Devils boss has been reluctant to promote his player of the year chances in the press.

Carrick does not want to depict Man United as a one-man band, but the Premier League Player of the Month for March is expected to pick up individual accolades at the end of the campaign.

Fernandes is likely to make the PFA Team of the Year and should be nominated for a couple of Player of the Year awards, given his individual performances this term.

He is desperate to get his team back into the Champions League, and three more victories should be enough to secure a spot.

Man United face Brentford, Liverpool, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion in their remaining games.

Fernandes is desperate to win the Premier League and Champions League, but the current Man United squad is not good enough to challenge for major trophies.

The club reportedly aim to make four major signings in the summer, with two midfielders, an experienced striker and a left-back on their wishlist.

They have to get it right in the next summer transfer window, and the right additions could make Fernandes an even better player.
