Red Devils have been linked with a shock swoop for Arsenal fan favourite

Lewis Hall is one of several options being considered by Manchester United in their search for a new left-back.

Standard Sport understands that Hall is a long-standing target for United, but it is believed that a deal would be difficult to negotiate at this time.

United are in the market for a new left-back with Luke Shaw, 31, having now entered the final 12 months of his contract at Old Trafford, though sources insist they are not pursuing a move for versatile Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly.

The Red Devils are currently assessing what their priority position is heading into the final month of the summer transfer window, with reinforcements also needed in attack.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are reluctant to lose any more key players before the deadline on September 1, with midfielder Sandro Tonali and winger Anthony Gordon having already departed, for Tottenham and Barcelona respectively, and captain Bruno Guimaraes edging towards a move to Arsenal.

Hall made 47 appearances across all competitions for Newcastle last season, but was not called up by Thomas Tuchel to England’s World Cup squad.

The 21-year-old has been a key player for Newcastle since moving from Chelsea in a £28million permanent deal in 2024 following a successful loan spell, though he has battled with injury issues during his time on Tyneside.

United have already made three signings so far this summer, bringing in midfield duo Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans from Chelsea and Aston Villa for a combined fee of around £85m, plus veteran goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer following his exit from Leeds.

They have also signed teenage goalkeeper Kit Margetson after agreeing a compensation package with Swansea, having previously swooped for highly-rated Tottenham youngster Tynan Thompson.

Despite adding Santos and Tielemans to their ranks, United are believed to be keen on signing another central midfielder, while they had enquired about the terms of a deal for Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville before his £59.6m switch from West Ham to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal earlier this month.

United’s pre-season tour of Europe continues this weekend when they take on back-to-back Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg, Sweden.
