Ruben Amorim considering big selection decision for Premier League clash at Elland Road
Ruben Amorim is expected to stick with a back three system for Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Leeds this weekend.
Amorim switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation in Man United’s 1-0 win over Newcastle on Boxing Day, but reverted back to type for the 1-1 draw with rock-bottom Wolves on Tuesday night.
The Man Utd boss was asked about the decision to tweak his system in the post-match press conference and explained it was to counter Wolves’ own back-three setup.
“No, we knew that they will play with a five,” Amorim told reporters.
“They will use the width. And, today, was just to do that and then sometimes building up with him open or closed with Luke Shaw doing the opposite.
“So, we try to arrange the right situations for the situation that we have in the moment.”
With Leeds boss Daniel Farke favouring a back three, it would appear that Amorim will opt against switching formation for the game at Elland Road.
The Portuguese tactician, though, could make some changes in terms of personell as Leny Yoro may come in for Lisandro Martinez to offer the Argentine some rest after playing two games in a short space of time following a long layoff.

United’s options in defence are limited with Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire and both still missing, while Noussair Mazraoui is away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Amorim has said he will not rush injured players back against Leeds which rules out captain Bruno Fernandes once again and leaves midfield pair Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo as doubts.
The absences of Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo means Joshua Zirkzee could be handed another start in attack despite being withdrawn at half time against Wolves.
Predicted Manchester United XI: Lammens; Yoro, Heaven, Shaw; Dalot, Casemiro, Ugarte, Dorgu; Zirkzee, Cunha; Sesko
Injured: Maguire, De Ligt, Fernandes
Doubts: Mainoo, Mount
Unavailable: Mazraoui, Amad, Mbeumo (AFCON)
