Manchester United’s defensive frailties were exposed in their 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest.
The Red Devils enjoyed an encouraging start at City Ground, but a brief lapse in concentration minutes into the second half led to two goals for the hosts. Amad Diallo’s late strike helped the visitors salvage a point.
Individually, United defenders have largely performed very good this term. However, the Mancunians are seemingly missing a leader at the back to ensure collective consistency.
According to Defensa Central, United have entered the race to sign Marc Guehi.
Known for his positional awareness and composure, the Crystal Palace defender is attracting interest from a number of European powerhouses, including Real Madrid.
His contract at Selhurst Park is due to expire next summer and the Eagles are not expected to find an agreement over a renewal.
Real have frequently pounced on opportunities to sign high-profile free agents over the last few years. It is understood Los Blancos are keen on signing the England international in 2026.
The Spanish outlet claim United are prepared to deal a blow to Xabi Alonso’s plans of welcoming Guehi to Santiago Bernabeu.
It is understood United are eyeing a deal for the Palace star and intend to make an offer during the January transfer window. Further, the 25-year-old’s representatives are open to considering winter offers.
United will reportedly “offer a huge sum of money” to beat Real to Guehi’s signature.
In the summer of 2024, the La Liga leaders got the first-hand experience of the Premier League giants’ threat in the transfer market.
Real were thought to be in the driving seat to sign Lille’s generational talent Leny Yoro before United entered the scene and struck a swift agreement over a deal worth £58.9m with the Ligue 1 outfit.
