Marc Guehi WILL join Liverpool

Ultimately, it was heartbreak for Marc Guehi and Liverpool in the last hours of deadline day on Monday.

The Crystal Palace captain had his dream thwarted after his club failed to bring in a replacement. It brings an end a summer saga that had gotten quite ugly at Palace.

From the beginning, there has been a rift between the club's chairman Steve Parish and manager Oliver Glasner. The former recognised they needed to sell Guehi with just one year left on his contract.

The latter wanted nothing else than to keep his captain at the club ahead of a Europa Conference League campaign.

In the end, Glasner won after he threatened to resign from his position, and Palace have kept Guehi for the next six months.

But ultimately this chapter for Liverpool is not over.

Guehi will be joining Liverpool. Whether that's in January for a cut-price or whether it's on a free transfer next summer, he will be playing for Arne Slot's side sooner rather than later.

This is not a case of Nabil Fekir, who failed a medical. This is a case of a long-term target who had passed his medical and who was ready to put pen to paper on a deal to join the Reds.

Liverpool have wanted to sign Guehi all summer. Guehi has wanted to sign for Liverpool all summer, too. When other clubs approached him, he had made it clear the Reds were his choice.

We absolutely cannot see either party change their stance in the next six months at the very least. Ultimately, January is still a long while away but Parish won't want to lose his captain for nothing.

Now Palace have a few months to line up replacements for Guehi and it's extremely likely that in six months time, Liverpool will go in with a bid and get their man, for much less than the £35m they agreed in the summer window.

Guehi is much more like the case of Fabio Carvalho. In the January 2022 window, the Reds failed to get the deal over the line for him on deadline day.

But in the end, Carvalho was announced as Liverpool player early that summer. Considering how close the agreement was between all parties, we can see the same happening again with Guehi.

Ultimately, the England international is a player Liverpool want, and usually when the Reds set their sights on someone, and get the player onboard as well, they never fail to get the deal over the line.

In 2017, Liverpool failed to get Virgil van Dijk from Southampton. Six months later, he was a Liverpool player scoring on his debut against Everton.

Liverpool will end up doing the same with Guehi. He will be a Red.
