Chelsea striker Marc Guiu is set to join Premier League rivals Sunderland on a season-long loan.

The agreed deal is a straight loan, so the newly-promoted side will not have an option to buy Guiu once the loan spell ends.

The 19-year-old is seen as part of Chelsea’s long-term plans and has been allowed to leave Stamford Bridge for the 2025-26 season in order to amass much-needed game time at first-team level.

He is now due to undergo a medical on Wearside and will become Sunderland’s ninth signing of a busy summer since they gained promotion from the Championship with victory in May’s play-off final against Sheffield United at Wembley.

Guiu scored six goals in 16 matches in his first season at Chelsea last term, with all of those strikes coming in their Conference League-winning campaign.

The Spain youth international signed a five-year contract when joining Chelsea from Barcelona for a £5million transfer fee in July 2024.

Guiu previously had reported interest from relegated Ipswich, whose leading marksman Liam Delap joined Chelsea before the Club World Cup after the Blues triggered his £30m relegation release clause.

Chelsea are in the process of shifting a number of players as they seek to shrink their bulging squad.
