Sevilla have received a boost, with injured defender Marcao obtaining a Spanish passport that will count him as a community player. In a squad featuring two Chileans and two Nigerians, the change could help ahead of the next transfer window.

According to Superdeporte, Sevilla replaced Almeyda with Luis García Plaza and hold a three-point cushion over Mallorca, who lead the relegation places. The mid to lower pack is tight, with Valencia climbing after a 0-2 win at the Sánchez Pizjuán, as the club awaits a sale.

Defence remains the problem. Sevilla have conceded 49 and scored 37, with poor market planning and injuries, including Azpilicueta’s, taking a heavy toll.

Marcao is under contract until 2028 and is close to turning 30. He joined from Galatasaray for 13 million and has not met expectations amid repeated injuries. His market value has fallen from 15 to 2.5 million.

If no significant offer arrives, keeping him would be important for Sevilla. Between a heavy ban for his red card against Levante UD and a subsequent scaphoid fracture, he has barely featured since December.
