Ruben Amorim wasted little time in asserting his authority at Manchester United as he threw academy graduate Marcus Rashford out of the squad.

The head coach pointed to the Mancunian’s lack of effort in training and attitude as the reasons for the exile. He played six times initially, before missing the next 13.

He was shipped out on loan to Aston Villa in January, where the forward showed signs of a resurgence, with four goals and six assists from 17 appearances.

Villa wanted to sign him permanently, but the Englishman was hellbent on joining Barcelona. The Catalans did eventually come in for him, signing him on a season-long loan with an option to buy for €30 million.

Barca having second thoughts

The England international has six goals and nine assists already for the Blaugrana, but the La Liga giants are having second thoughts about signing him on a permanent basis.

The 28-year-old’s humongous wages are a concern, and should Hansi Flick’s side not trigger the buy option, there are plenty of other sides waiting in the wings.

Paris Saint-Germain remain long-term admirers, while there is a lot of interest from English clubs with Chelsea, and Arsenal among those ready to swoop.

Now, CaughtOffside have claimed Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring proceedings with interest. The North London outfit want to add to their attack, with Thomas Frank identifying the United loanee as the perfect fit.

“The Blaugrana board are now deliberating over whether to trigger the €30 million buy option included in the loan agreement. While Rashford’s performances have been impressive, the club’s financial constraints remain a significant factor in the final decision.

Will INEOS allow a domestic rival to sign Marcus Rashford?

“Barcelona are still navigating La Liga’s strict salary cap regulations, which means any permanent signing must be carefully balanced against their overall wage structure.

“Despite Rashford’s desire to stay in Spain, several European clubs are monitoring his situation closely. Paris Saint-Germain have made the forward one of their top offensive targets and are ready to invest around €50 million if Barcelona opt not to activate their purchase clause.

“Meanwhile, a return to the Premier League has not been ruled out. Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in bringing Rashford back to England as they continue to rebuild under Thomas Frank. Chelsea and Arsenal are also keeping tabs.”

Whether INEOS will be happy to agree a deal with a direct domestic rival remains to be seen. The fee United will command is expected to be higher if at all Marcus Rashford decides to return to the Premier League.
