Last summer, Marcus Rashford secured a loan move to Barcelona and what a brilliant decision it has turned out to be.
Rashford has rediscovered his mojo in Spain.
The Manchester United academy graduate is back to his dangerous best, giving defenders a torrid time while consistently contributing goals and assists.
Many expected him to struggle at Barcelona, given the attacking depth at Hansi Flick’s disposal and the high-flying form of the Spanish champions’ attack.
But Rashford has leaned into his talent and work ethic, winning over Flick and his technical staff to become a regular fixture in Barca’s starting line-up.
The 27-year-old has started nine of Barcelona’s last ten matches, registering 11 goal contributions during that run.
Rashford has been a revelation in Catalonia, and according to Dean Jones, INEOS feel vindicated by their decision to send him out on loan.
Jones explains via Teamtalk:
“I don’t believe Man Utd have any regrets over loaning Rashford to Barcelona.
“To be honest, the way it’s working out is actually quite good for them. He was never going to recapture form at United, and his value was dropping.
“They’ve also avoided the potential nightmare of him thriving at another Premier League club.
“Now, they’ve got the chance to cash in at a price they’re happy with.
“He’s ended up at the only other club he wanted to play for, and that deal will most likely become permanent.”
United had the foresight to include a €30 million option (£26.3m) to buy in Rashford’s season-long loan deal at Barca. If Jones is right, that clause could eventually be activated, lining United up for a tidy windfall.
Those funds could be reinvested to strengthen the squad and help build Ruben Amorim’s dream team.
With Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho all seemingly out of the picture at Old Trafford, INEOS may be wise to explore options for a new left winger, one profile United now appear to be lacking.
