Marcus Thuram has sent the strongest signal yet about his future amid transfer interest from Premier League clubs.
The France international has been in sensational form for Inter Milan this season, scoring 12 goals and providing three assists in 17 Serie A appearances. He needs just one more goal to match his tally for the whole of last season.
Thuram‘s performances have naturally caught the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Liverpool are said to be interested in the forward, while Arsenal and PSG have also been linked.
The 23-year-old, who joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2023, is contracted until 2028, but has a release clause for around £70 million (€85m).
A club could conceivably sign him next month by tabling an offer for that amount in the January transfer window, but it may not be as straightforward as that given comments he recently made in an interview.
Thuram has gone as far to say that he won’t leave Inter by having his release clause triggered and would have to talk with the club if anyone comes in for him.
“It’s a very high fee, but I’ll make it very clear,” the Frenchman told Gazzetta dello Sport. “It’s never going to happen that I leave Inter by having the release clause triggered.
“There’s a clause in my contract that says I can leave for a certain fee. But I’ll never be the one to make that choice alone.
“If any offers arrive, there will always be a discussion with the club.”
Thuram added: “I consider Inter to be among the super teams in Europe. I think we’re a scary team. I don’t think anyone is superior to us, not even one.”
