Omar Marmoush was forced off early after sustaining a knock to his leg as Egypt and Burkina Faso fought out a goalless draw in their latest CAF World Cup 2026 Group A qualifying clash.

The City striker, who spearheaded the Pharaohs attack during the clash at the Stade du 4-Août Stadium in Ouagadougou, sustained the problem after a robust fourth minute challenge.

After receiving treatment on the pitch Marmoush initially played on but was subsequently replaced with 10 minutes on the clock.

In his absence, group leaders Egypt and second-placed Burkina Faso largely cancelled each other out in what proved a tense, hard fought affair of few clear-cut chances.

With two games in the group left to play, the result leaves Egypt top of Group A with 20 points from eight games and within touching distance of what would be just their fourth-ever appearance at the World Cup finals.

Burkina Faso have 15 points with Sierra Leone third on 12 points.

A victory over Djibouti in their next fixture on October 6 would seal the deal for Egypt.

Only the group winner is guaranteed a place at next summer’s finals.
