Olympique de Marseille have closed the door on a move for Club Brugge defender Joël Ordoñez (20), according to Foot Mercato. The Ecuadorian centre-back had been a long-standing target for the club this summer, with OM exploring the possibility of a deal as part of their defensive rebuild.

However, the Ligue 1 side have now prioritised a move for Lutsharel Geertruida (25). The Dutch international is expected to arrive from RB Leipzig on loan with an option to buy, effectively ending Marseille’s interest in Ordoñez.Geertruida’s signing comes alongside the anticipated arrival of Belgian midfielder Arthur Vermeeren (19), also from Leipzig, as OM look to reinforce key areas of their squad ahead of the season’s final stretch.

The move for Geertruida is said to be independent of Marseille’s ongoing pursuit of West Ham defender and Sunderland target Nayef Aguerd.GFFN | George Boxall
