Manchester City’s number one goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has opened up on his relationship with the club’s supporters, as well as his offerings to the club’s official charity.

The Italian international has brought a commanding physical presence and world-class shot-stopping that has been pivotal in City’s pursuit of a historic domestic Treble, but has narrowly lost out on the top-flight’s Golden Glove chase to Arsenal’s David Raya.

Beyond his exploits on the pitch, Donnarumma has quickly integrated himself into the fabric of the local community, navigating the transition from Paris to Manchester with ease. His participation in club initiatives has not only endeared him to fans but also provided a significant boost to the club’s social responsibility efforts.

This community-focused approach comes at a time when Manchester City are continuing to strengthen the ties between their global superstars and the local Manchester area through the City in the Community (CITC) charity.

Gianluigi Donnarumma’s exceptional charity impact

Now, according to the Manchester Evening News’ Simon Bajkowski, despite not being involved in official CITC events, Gianluigi Donnarumma has donated a number of personal items throughout the season that have raised significant value for the charity.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Donnarumma said of Manchester City’s supporters as a whole, “They’ve all been really nice. Whether it’s around the city or through City in the Community, the interactions have been great, and everyone has been so welcoming.

“You see passion they have for the club, and it makes you proud to represent them. That bond has been massive for me. The welcome I received from the fans was incredible and it helped me feel at home straight away.

“When fans show that belief and support, it gives you confidence and it really helps you settle in both on and off the pitch.”

“Until you live it, you’ll never understand”: Gianluigi Donnarumma on working with Pep Guardiola

On supporting the ongoing work of City in the Community, Donnarumma said, “From the moment I arrived at City, I could see how deeply embedded the club is in the local community.

“City in the Community do unbelievable work across Manchester and being able to support that was something I wanted to be involved in straight away. I wanted to make sure the items were meaningful and would genuinely benefit people.

“It wasn’t just about donating for the sake of it, but about choosing things that could help, bring some comfort or put a smile on someone’s face. If it can make even a small difference to someone, then it’s worth it.”

Gianluigi Donnarumma’s ongoing Man City role

With just two weeks remaining in the 2025/26 season, Gianluigi Donnarumma’s presence will remain critical amid a gruelling immediate schedule, including a must-win clash in their game in hand against Crystal Palace and the highly anticipated FA Cup Final against Chelsea on May 16 – where James Trafford is expected to start.

Looking ahead to the summer, the goalkeeper will be granted a rare period of time off until Manchester City return to pre-season duties in Far-East Asia, unfortunately due to Italy’s failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in North America.
