Matarazzo marks 2028 deal as Real Sociedad complete fourth pre-season session | OneFootball

According to Diario Vasco, Real Sociedad completed their fourth pre-season session on Tuesday, the first overseen by Rino Matarazzo since his contract was extended to 2028. The American coach and his staff were welcomed with a playful guard of honour as the squad marked the renewal.

Work continued under fierce heat at Zubieta. It was a second run-out for Jon Martín and Turrientes after joining the group on Monday. The session was again held behind closed doors at José Luis Orbegozo, which will be the norm throughout the campaign.

Matarazzo’s players focused on endurance runs, possession drills, rondos and finishing exercises.

Jon Gorrotxategi and Jon Pacheco have yet to rejoin full training, and are expected to do so in the coming days. Gorrotxategi has a groin issue that affected the end of last season, while Pacheco is recovering from an ankle injury.

Balda and, in particular, Odriozola face a longer wait. The next to report to Matarazzo will be Kazunari Kita, who has extended his stay in Japan for a personal matter. Jon Mikel Aramburu, Yangel Herrera and Orri Óskarsson are due back on Thursday after recent internationals.

Real Sociedad will train on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in Zubieta, then hold a joint session on Saturday with Pau FC, opponents in last summer’s friendly. Sunday is a rest day. Their first pre-season match is scheduled against Racing de Santander on Saturday 18 July.
