Palmeiras sent a cohort to the 2026 World Cup, yet none saw a bigger shift in standing than Mauricio, whose performances for Paraguay have boosted his market value.

According to Nosso Palestra, the midfielder became a Paraguayan national early in 2026, earned a first senior call-up in March for friendlies against Greece and Morocco, then made the final list of 26 for the tournament.

At the World Cup he turned opportunity into impact, scoring against the United States and taking on a more prominent role. His form coincides with interest from abroad, with his Palmeiras future closely watched.

Others from the club saw steadier trajectories. Gustavo Gómez arrived as Paraguay’s captain and leading figure and maintained that level with notable displays. Jhon Arias continued as a key starter for Colombia.

Among the remaining Paraguayans, Ramón Sosa had less prominence than at club level. Uruguay duo Joaquín Piquerez and Emiliano Martínez were options from the bench.

Flaco López experienced something similar, having been in Argentina’s selections before the finals but remaining an alternative in a fiercely contested attack.

Of the seven representatives, Gustavo Gómez, Mauricio, Ramón Sosa, Piquerez, Emiliano Martínez, Flaco López and Jhon Arias, Mauricio posted the clearest rise in status. He returns to Palmeiras with World Cup experience and greater international visibility.
