Palmeiras are waiting on Argentina’s World Cup run to have their full squad for the second half of 2026. Flaco López remains with the national team, who face Switzerland in the quarter-finals at 22:00 on Saturday, and is the only one of the club’s seven call-ups still in the United States.
According to Globo.com, Gustavo Gómez, Mauricio and Ramón Sosa, who featured for Paraguay, are on leave and will report early next week. Jhon Arias, back from Colombia duty, is with his family and returns on Wednesday 15.
Paraguay and Colombia both reached the last 16, Paraguay eliminated Germany then lost to France, while Colombia beat Ghana before going out to Switzerland on penalties. If Argentina reach the final on 19 July, it will be three days before Palmeiras resume the Brasileirão away to Coritiba on 22 July.
New centre-back Barboza joined during the Cup break and will be registered when the window opens on 20 July. A two-match STJD ban from his Botafogo red card was reduced, so he is available.
Allan’s STJD suspension was upheld, ruling him out of the first two post-Cup fixtures, Coritiba and Atlético-MG. Paulinho received a one-match ban for his celebration in the 3-0 win over Flamengo, deemed contrary to ethics and discipline.
Beyond Barboza, Palmeiras are only pursuing midfielder Danilo of Botafogo for 2026, having signalled about R$ 120 million plus defender Naves and awaiting a response. Talks for Zenit defender Nino ended in May when Barboza was agreed.
