Memphis lands in São Paulo ahead of Corinthians contract renewal | OneFootball

Memphis Depay arrived at Guarulhos airport in São Paulo at about 2.15am on Tuesday to renew his Corinthians contract. The forward has returned to Brazil after more than two months away and is expected to extend his deal until mid-2028.

He touched down with around 12 people, including members of his staff, a fitness coach and lawyers. According to UOL Esporte, a van and four cars met the party, he travelled by private jet and disembarked directly onto the tarmac, bypassing waiting media, with no supporters present.

The No 10 is back in South America after playing at the World Cup for the Netherlands. Selected by Ronald Koeman, he featured in all three group matches, registering one assist, before the team were eliminated by Morocco in the second phase.

He now returns to Parque São Jorge having not played for Corinthians since 27 May, a defeat to Platense. He was granted an extended break while the rest of the squad reported back to CT Joaquim Grava, and his return was also delayed by renewal talks. He is expected to undergo medical tests on Tuesday.

Internal assessment is that he will need a period of physical reconditioning before Fernando Diniz can call on him. Only a surprise, in which he arrives in ideal shape, would change that.

Corinthians are also awaiting a definitive ruling from the CBF on his availability for the Copa do Brasil. The club believes he was registered within the deadline, but is still seeking formal confirmation that he can play.
