Mexico has a record of 3-0-1 in the 2025 edition. El Tricolor earned wins over the Netherlands, Cameroon, and Paraguay, amassing its current three consecutive wins in the WWC.

Players like Citalli Reyes, author of two key goals in the Group Stage, Berenice Ibarra, who scored the goal that made Mexico qualify for this Quarterfinal match, have been key factors for the North Americans to advance.

Goalkeeper Valentina Murrieta, has also been fundamental for Mexico’s Group Stage and Round of 16 success, having the highest number of goals prevented in the tournament among the teams reaching the Quarterfinals.

Italy gets to this Quarterfinal match with a record of 4-0-0, conceding four goals so far between the Group Stage and the Round of 16.

All-Time series

Mexico and Italy will face each other for the first time in the history of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

For Mexico, this marks its fourth appearance in the quarterfinals, an instance that brings back memories of its most historic campaign. That unforgettable run came at the Uruguay 2018 edition, when El Tri advanced to the final for the first time after defeating Ghana in a dramatic penalty shootout (4-2) following a 2-2 draw, highlighted by a brilliant brace from captain Nicole Pérez. Mexico went on to claim the runner-up finish, falling 1-2 to Spain in the championship match.

Throughout its history in the U-17 Women’s World Cup knockout rounds, Mexico has participated in three key elimination matches:

·       Quarterfinal – Uruguay 2018: 2-2 draw and 4-2 win on penalties vs. Ghana.

·       Semifinal – Uruguay 2018: loss to Canada.

·       Quarterfinal – Morocco 2025: vs. Paraguay.

When it comes to matches against UEFA nations, the clash with Italy will be Mexico’s seventh in U-17 Women’s World Cup history, where the young Mexicans hold a record of 2 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses.

For Italy, this will be its third-ever meeting against a Concacaf opponent in the U-17 Women’s World Cup, having won both previous encounters — 1-0 in 2014 and 3-0 in 2025, both against Costa Rica.
