RABAT, Morocco – The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Morocco 2025 continued as Mexico and Italy played to a nil-nil draw in regular time, with the Concacaf nation prevailing 5-4 on penalties, in the Quarterfinals on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium of Rabat in Rabat, Morocco.
Valentina Murrieta made an important save on an Italy penalty kick attempt, denying Rachele Giudici from the twelve steps in the 21’ to keep the score nil-nil.
Murrieta saved another penalty in the 41’, this time from Giulia Galli, to keep the match scoreless.
The two nations would hold each other scoreless through full time, prompting for a penalty shootout to decide the last semifinalist.
Citlalli Reyes and Berenice Ibarra scored the first two PKs for Mexico. Murrieta starred once again with a save in the third round of the shootout, denying Italy’s captain Giudici once more.
Mia Villalpando, Valeria Alvarado, and Leila Avila converted their attempts from the penalty spot as Mexico prevailed 5-4 on penalties.
With the victory, Mexico assures itself a top four finish. Mexico will meet the Netherlands in the Semifinals on Wednesday for a spot in the championship match.
