Leicester City’s interest in free agent Michail Antonio underlines their push for sharper attacking output and the realities of their recruitment. According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the club are taking a closer look at the free agent as they assess January options.
City’s three centre-forwards, Jordan Ayew, Patson Daka and Julian Carranza, have five goals between them this season, three excluding penalties. All of the summer additions were loans or free transfers, and that looks to be their focus for January, which opens in two weeks.
Marti Cifuentes said loans and free agents are an option, describing January as tricky and finding the right players as not straightforward. He added that some situations may take time and that City will look at different solutions.
Having arrived midway through the summer window, Cifuentes has had more time to assess needs and says he and the club are aligned on areas to address with two weeks to go. He also noted that plans could change, particularly with injuries.
Any arrivals, he stressed, must improve the team rather than add numbers, and should not block the pathway of the best young players. He is pleased with the youngsters’ application and contributions so far, which he says must be factored alongside any reinforcement.
