Miedema wins March’s Etihad Player of the Month | OneFootball

Vivianne Miedema has been named March’s Etihad Player of the Month.

It represents the second time the Netherlands internationals has claimed the award after edging out her team-mates with a majority of 53% across a total of nearly 5,000 votes cast.

The versatile forward featured in each of our eight matches across the 31 days and made her mark in the first assignment when netting in our 2-1 win over Spurs.

Miedema opened the scoring when meeting a pinpoint Aoba Fujino cross from the right to powerfully head into the back of the net, before the Japan winger slammed home the winner at Brisbane Road.

She then turned provider seven days later when teeing up Jess Park to fire home our second in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa which booked our place in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup semi-finals.

But her real standout display came against Chelsea in the first leg of our Champions League quarter-final at the Joie Stadium.

Introduced at half-time, she broke the deadlock when showcasing her poacher’s instinct to lift into the roof of the net after Laia Aleixandri’s powerful header cannoned off the crossbar.

She then added a second in the closing stages when receiving Kerolin Nicoli’s pass before drilling low into the bottom corner to inflict a first defeat of the season on the Londoners.

What’s more, Miedema’s exploits also earned her a nomination for the WSL’s Player of the Month prize, too.
