The Gunners had their crowning moment while not on the pitch on Tuesday night as Manchester City were held to a draw by Bournemouth.

The Arsenal squad gathered to watch that match at the training ground. Several of Arteta's staff were also in attendance, as well as sporting director Andrea Berta.

However, Arteta opted not to join that watch party and instead drove home just before kick-off at the Vitality Stadium.

He also decided against watching the match and instead kept himself occupied outside until his eldest son Gabriel, who plays for the Arsenal Under-18 side, broke the news.

"It's one of the best feelings I've ever had," Arteta said.

"I was supposed to be here at Colney watching the game with the boys and certain staff because that's what they wanted - but I couldn't.

"I think 20 minutes before the game I had to leave. I couldn't bring the energy that I wanted and ultimately it was their moment to watch it together, to be themselves and just see what the outcome would be.

"I went home, I went outside to the garden and started to build some fire. Then I started to do a barbecue. I didn't watch any of it. I was just hearing some noises in the background, in the living room, and suddenly the magic happened.

"My eldest son opened the garden door, he started to run towards me. He started to cry and gave me a hug and said: 'We are champions, daddy!'

"Then my other two boys and my wife came over. It was beautiful. Just to see that joy on them, they are always with me, it was magical."

Arteta received a huge number of messages after the full-time whistle at Bournemouth, including one immediately from his captain Martin Odegaard.

He revealed: "I think a minute later, Martin sent me a video. 'Where are you? Come over!'"

"I said, 'Guys enjoy it for a while and see you in a few hours somewhere in London'. It was beautiful."

The Arsenal squad initially celebrated at the training ground before they then moved onto Tape nightclub in London.

Arteta joined them there in the early hours of Wednesday morning, after deciding it was important to initially let the players celebrate alone.

"After watching the videos, it was their moment," Arteta said.

"They have to be themselves in that moment. I think if I was there it wouldn't have been the same. I'm glad they did it that way.

"They enjoyed it so much, the staff were all over the place. We had our moment together a few hours later."
