Mikel Oyarzabal addresses Barcelona links: ‘I’m very happy at Real Sociedad’ | OneFootball

Mikel Oyarzabal has played down speculation linking him with a move to FC Barcelona, insisting he remains fully committed to Real Sociedad.

The striker has been mentioned as a potential option to replace Robert Lewandowski at the Catalan club, following his impressive performances at the World Cup.

But the Spain international made his position clear during an interview with El Partidazo on COPE (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

Clear Commitment to Real Sociedad

Asked about the rumours surrounding Barcelona’s interest, Oyarzabal reaffirmed his attachment to the club where he has spent his entire professional career.

“I’ve already said that I’m very happy at Real Sociedad,” he said.

“For me it’s been a home, a place where they’ve supported me even in the most difficult times, when I was at my worst. Thanks to Real Sociedad I’m here. That’s about it,” he added,

The 29-year-old chose not to elaborate further, making it clear that his priority is staying focused on Spain’s upcoming World Cup Round-of-16 match against Portugal rather than discussing his club future.

Oyarzabal has been one of Spain’s standout performers during the tournament, leading to renewed speculation about his future.

However, his latest comments suggest that any transfer talk will remain on hold while he concentrates on helping Spain progress in the competition.

For now, the forward’s message is straightforward: his attention is on the World Cup, and he remains happy at Real Sociedad.

As for Barcelona, their priority target to replace Lewandowski this summer remains Atletico Madrid superstar Julian Alvarez.

However, the Rojiblancos’ firm stance on the Argentine not being for sale this summer, despite the player’s open admission of wanting an exit, makes the situation very complicated.

If a move for Alvarez does not materialise, Oyarzabal could emerge as a more realistic target for Barcelona. He is familiar with the rigours of La Liga, has valuable experience and has shown chemistry with some of the Blaugrana stars while playing for the national team.

For now, however, the attacker is not thinking about the rumours and is focused on the World Cup with Spain.
