Portuguese football will honour Silvino Louro with a minute’s silence across federation-run fixtures in the coming days, including Benfica v Vitória de Guimarães. According to Glorioso 1904, the Portuguese Football Federation has decided the tribute following the former goalkeeper’s death on Thursday.
Louro, from Setúbal, was a respected figure who left a significant mark on the national game.
As a goalkeeper he represented several leading clubs, notably Benfica, where he won four league titles.
After retiring he moved into coaching as a goalkeeping specialist, working on José Mourinho’s staff at some of Europe’s biggest clubs, which broadened his international profile.
Mourinho wrote on social media that he is grieving but will smile again as he remembers Louro, saying he is loved within the Mourinho family and will live on in their memories. He added that he will keep hearing Louro’s words of encouragement before every match, and ended with a tender farewell.
