The disruptive action at FC Bayern’s championship celebrations on Munich’s Marienplatz continues to be a talking point. Now those behind the XXL mock banner have revealed details of their spectacular coup for the first time – and are even making demands of the record champions
While thousands of Bayern fans celebrated the 35th championship on Sunday, supporters of city rivals TSV 1860 Munich suddenly rolled out a huge banner in the middle of the cordoned-off fan area
The special thing about it was that the banner initially looked like a classic Bayern logo – but with the insulting inscription „FC Bauern Hurensöhne“ („FC farmers sons of bitches“)
As the Löwen fans involved have now told BILD, the action was apparently prepared over several days
According to the report, the banner had a diameter of 15 meters, an area of 180 square meters and weighed around 20 kilograms. „We spent a week painting the banner,“ explained one of the participants anonymously
Particularly explosive: according to the report, the 1860 fans used a Telekom trick to bypass security checks
Those involved are said to have worn Telekom shirts, as the Bayern sponsor was present directly at Marienplatz with advertising space and employees. This apparently allowed the saboteurs to move largely undisturbed through all security areas
„The banner was smuggled covertly through all the security gates shortly before the ceremony,“ the fan continued
The embarrassing incident occurred during the emotional farewell to Leon Goretzka on the town hall balcony
Manuel Neuer was apparently the first to notice the incident and informed stadium announcer Stephan Lehmann
He reacted immediately and said live into the microphone: „Can you get the tarpaulin for a moment?“
But by then it was already too late: the TV cameras had long since caught the banner
After quickly rolling it up, the XXL logo initially disappeared without a trace. According to BILD, however, the 1860 fans involved now want the banner back. They are apparently trying to get it back through their lawyer Gerald Assner. „The clients don’t want to incur any further costs for the disposal,“ explained the lawyer
However, it is unclear where the banner is currently located
Despite the provocation, FC Bayern reacted relatively calmly to the action. According to information from BILD, the record champions do not intend to press criminal charges for insulting behavior
Nevertheless, President Herbert Hainer could not resist a side blow against the city rivals: „Unfortunately, our fans cannot return the favor, because there will be no championship to celebrate at 1860 so soon.“
