An adviser to Wolfsburg attacker Mohamed Amoura has claimed that the Algerian international is closing in on a move to RB Leipzig. Sky Germany nevertheless disputes that an agreement is imminent or that negotiations have reached an advanced stage. Amoura, with an estimated market value of €20m, is currently the most valuable professional in the 2. Bundesliga.

Algerian football portal Maghreb Foot  – as relayed by transfermarkt.de – quotes an unnamed adviser working with the 26-year-old, who is officially represented by the DWMA agency.

“Amoura will play for the German club RB Leipzig, with whom we are in negotiations,” the adviser is quoted as saying. “The negotiations with the German club are already very advanced.”

Sky Germany subsequently contradicted the claims. According to the German broadcaster, Amoura is not presently on the verge of joining Leipzig and no advanced negotiations are taking place.

The conflicting reports mean that any potential deal remains far from certain. No information concerning a possible transfer fee or contract is available from a reputable source at this time.

Leipzig searching for additional attacking reinforcement

Leipzig are searching for another striker capable of competing with Brazilian centre-forward Rômulo. The Saxon club could also consider parting company with Conrad Harder following the Danish international’s difficult first Bundesliga campaign.

Hoffenheim attacker Fisnik Asllani has also been considered as Leipzig seek to strengthen their attack. The 23-year-old’s future remains unresolved amid additional interest from Barcelona.

Leipzig should possess sufficient funds to complete another major attacking signing following Yan Diomande’s proposed move to Real Madrid. Several European clubs had increased their offers for the Ivorian international before the Spanish giants moved into pole position.

Amoura would offer Leipzig a flexible alternative capable of playing through the middle or operating from the left. The 26-year-old is nevertheless currently dealing with a thigh injury and is expected to miss Wolfsburg’s 2. Bundesliga season opener against 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

Amoura expected to leave Wolfsburg following relegation

A transfer away from Wolfsburg following the club’s Bundesliga relegation has long appeared likely. The Algerian initially joined Wolfsburg on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in 2024. The German club subsequently made the move permanent, paying a total package reportedly worth approximately €17.75m.

Amoura’s strong first Bundesliga season quickly generated interest elsewhere. Bayer Leverkusen were linked with a potential €50m move after the attacker registered nine goals and nine assists in his first 21 league appearances.

Wolfsburg were prepared to entertain offers one year ago and placed Amoura among five players available for transfer. Benfica emerged as the most serious suitor.

The Autostädter nevertheless rejected a €34m package from the Portuguese club, having reportedly demanded at least €40m. Amoura was understood to have agreed personal terms with Benfica, but no deal could be completed.

Wolfsburg eventually withdrew from the transfer market and retained Amoura for the 2025/26 campaign.

Disciplinary problems accompanied Wolfsburg decline

Amoura has scored 18 goals and contributed 16 assists in 67 competitive appearances for Wolfsburg. His second season proved less productive, however, with eight goals and four assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

The forward also attracted negative attention away from the pitch. A training-ground altercation with teammate Joakim Mæhle led to possible disciplinary consequences near the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Wolfsburg then confirmed another disciplinary suspension after omitting Amoura from their matchday squad against Köln in January.

His struggles formed part of a disastrous season in which Wolfsburg’s sporting and administrative structures rapidly unravelled. As noted in Get German Football NewsFebruary team check, Amoura was unable to provide the consistent attacking production required as the club slipped towards relegation.

A summer departure now appears logical for both parties. Whether Leipzig will ultimately provide Amoura with a route back to the Bundesliga remains unclear, particularly after Sky Germany’s emphatic rejection of claims that the transfer is already close.
