David Moyes hailed Everton duo James Garner and Jake O’Brien for battling through illness to help their side to a win over Burnley.

Goals from James Tarkowski and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall strengthened Everton’s hopes of qualifying for Europe and Moyes was full of praise his players.

“Gana (Gueye) has been doing exceptionally well for us for many years,” Moyes said.

“I actually think he’s just beginning to get back to his best after AFCON. Him and Ili (Ndiaye) are just beginning to do a lot better than they were a month ago when they came back.

“Kiernan as well. Kiernan came back from an injury and they’re just beginning to get into good form.

“Jimmy Garner has been great all season.

“Jimmy Garner and Jake O’Brien both had illness. It sounds like there’s a wee bit going around, at Newcastle where we’ve just come away from, and today as well so they’ve done great to play the game.”

Moyes also says he is proud that Everton can now look forward after several seasons of relegation worries.

“It would be amazing if we could even get close (to Europe), which we are,” he said. “We’re getting close.

“I want to be positive. I want to think there’s a chance that we can do it. I want to think that we’re not talking about relegation here at the club anymore and we’re trying to move on.

“We backed up the win at St James’ Park and it’s great to get back-to-back wins.”
