The Senegalese midfielder, currently a free agent, is closing in on a move to the Hornets.
Nampalys Mendy / RC Lens
After a two-season stint at RC Lens, Nampalys Mendy is on the verge of returning to English football. According to multiple sources, the Senegal international midfielder has reached an agreement with Watford for a free transfer.
At 33, Nampalys Mendy is nearing a comeback in England following a mixed spell at Leicester City, where he played from 2016 to 2023. His final season with the English club included a loan to Nice before joining Lens in September 2023. Wearing the Sang et Or shirt, he brought valuable Champions League experience, particularly during the 2023 group stage. Unfortunately, he was sidelined during the 2024/25 campaign before his contract expired this summer.
According to reports, the former Leicester City player is set to sign a one-year contract with an option for extension, pending a medical scheduled for Wednesday, August 27, 2025 in London. With Nampalys Mendy's arrival, Watford aims to bolster its midfield for the 2025-2026 Championship season. Under head coach Paulo Pezzolano, the Hornets are targeting a swift return to the Premier League. Mendy's experience and defensive solidity are expected to be valuable assets for the English club.
