That's football for you. On Matchday 14, our boys impressed for long stretches at home to WSG Tirol. Having gone 2-0 up, three goals against the run of play condemned us to a frustrating defeat.
In the icy November cold, we needed a little time to get going. A rather uneventful opening phase finally came to an end thanks to a perfectly placed cross from Terzic. Moussa Yeo wasn't intimidated by the tall Tyrolean defence and ran into the middle to head home powerfully to make it 1-0 (11').
Apart from a few bursts of energy from the visitors, we were clearly the dominant team, although the number of scoring opportunities remained limited for both sides. The next big chance came in the 29th minute, but at the wrong end - as a Tirol cross following a free-kick led to a dangerous header, which Alex Schlager just managed to tip around the post. Shortly afterwards, Yeo had the opportunity to complete a brace after dispossessing the opponent during their build-up play. In the heat of the moment, the Malian narrowly missed the half-empty goal (33').

That didn't matter, because just moments later Yeo was able to celebrate after setting up a goal. His cross from the wing found Edmund Baidoo perfectly, who, despite the ball bouncing, confidently directed it into the net for 2-0 (37'). The goal brought more clarity to the game, and until the half-time whistle, our lads were clearly on top and actively looking for ways to add a third goal.
After the change of ends, the visitors immediately became dangerous, and threatened once again from a set piece. A volley from the edge of the penalty area forced Schlager into another brilliant save. Tirol clearly wanted to push for a quick equalizer. But it wasn't long before our Red Bulls were back on the attack. Baidoo (53' and 56') plus Vertessen (62') had excellent opportunities to seal the victory, but instead, a glimmer of hope for Tirol emerged seemingly out of nowhere. Baden Frederiksen executed a perfect counter-attack with a solo run, leaving Schuster in his wake and calmly slotting home to make it 1-2 (64th minute).
Unsurprisingly, the game's dynamic shifted, and the visitors gained renewed confidence, but we quickly reasserted our dominance. Our next good chance fell to substitute Mads Bidstrup (69'), and shortly after, the impressive Yeo's shot struck the post (72'), before Tirol struck again - seemingly out of nowhere. Once more, a Tirol free-kick caused danger, and after a deflection, Lawrence poked the ball into the net for the equaliser (74').
The fact that we were now under pressure after such a good performance came completely out of the blue. In the final minutes, we had renewed hope for a win after Tirol's Taferner was sent off with a second yellow card (87'). Instead of capitalising, the absolute worst-case scenario happened. A brilliantly executed counter-attack by the visitors resulted in a penalty. WSG Tirol captain Müller stepped up and converted the spot kick to seal a shock 3-2 victory for the visitors (90+6').
Of course, something like this really hurts, especially because, with all due respect to WSG, we are responsible for this defeat ourselves. We were leading 2-0, had the game well under control, and even created some good scoring opportunities, but we weren't sharp enough to seal the victory. Consequently, we now have huge disappointment and, in our view, an unnecessary defeat. We haven't been in this situation of losing for a long time. Naturally, it's a set-back, but that's part of the game, and we're allowed to be disappointed. We certainly won't make the mistake of throwing everything away now.

It's always incredibly frustrating to concede three goals. Of course, WSG have good players and they played well. It wasn't really the kind of game where you should concede three goals, yet here we are, having lost 2-3 – it simply wasn't good enough!
