FC Bayern have a real superstar on their books in Ibrahima Konaté, and talks are already underway with the central defender
FC Bayern could apparently land a real transfer coup next summer. According to reports in several English media outlets, the Munich club are looking closely at Ibrahima Konaté, who can leave Liverpool FC on a free transfer at the end of the season
The 27-year-old centre-back has already been linked with the German record champions in recent days and weeks, but now the speculation seems to have become much more concrete. According to the English portal CaughtOffside, initial negotiations are already underway between the Konaté camp and FC Bayern
Sports director Max Eberl and the Munich management are exploring the possibility of bringing the French international to the Isar without a transfer fee, a deal that would be hugely exciting in sporting terms – and at first glance looks like a real bargain financially
However, FC Bayern are by no means alone in their interest. According to CaughtOffside, Real Madrid are also said to be in talks with the defender’s agents. In addition, TEAMtalk reports that Chelsea FC are also keeping an eye on Konaté
Even if no classic transfer fee would be due for Konaté, a potential transfer would be anything but cheap. The central defender will reportedly demand a hefty salary
Added to this is the signing fee, which is customary in the industry and can quickly reach double-digit millions for players in this category
Nevertheless, Konaté would be a highly interesting candidate for FC Bayern. The Frenchman brings international experience, pace, physicality and strength in tackling. It is precisely this profile that could be in demand at Säbener Straße if there are indeed changes in the defence in the summer
It has long been an open secret in Munich that Minjae Kim and Hiroki Ito are not considered unsellable. Should one or even both central defenders leave the club, the record champions would inevitably have to react on the transfer market
However, Konaté is not the only name currently being traded at Säbener Straße. In addition to the Liverpool star, Yann Bisseck from Inter Milan and Gleison Bremer from Juventus have also recently been linked with FC Bayern
The decisive difference: while Konaté would be available on a free transfer, Munich would have to dig deep into their pockets for Bisseck or Bremer, which is why the Frenchman could be particularly attractive to Eberl
However, it is also clear that a transfer on a free transfer quickly turns into a bidding war for top players. Real Madrid and Chelsea also have enormous financial resources at their disposal and could put together a lucrative package for Konaté
For FC Bayern, it is therefore likely to be a matter of convincing the players at an early stage. Munich need planning security in defense – and Konaté could be just the player to take a potential shake-up in defense to a new level.
