Newcastle 1 Wolves 0 – Saturday 13 September 2025 3pm
Instant fan / writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.
‘The first W of the season and may there be many more to come!
All the best score on their debut and a brilliant header has got Nick off to the best of starts.
A good team performance with Tonali a special player that we have the pleasure of watching every game.
Bring on Barca, can’t wait.’
GToon:
‘Brilliant result!
Delighted for the big man.
I at a wedding and the person running the show announced mobile phones to be off. WTF!!!
Looking forward to the photos that will clearly show me and my son checking the score every five minutes while the rest of the crowd look on.’
Billy Miller:
‘Important win and first goal for the big man.
Could and should have won by more but we did what we needed to and a debut goal for Woltemade will hopefully give him confidence to start his Newcastle career with a bit of form.’
Matt Busby said…:
‘Getting three points was very important today.
We’re off the mark with our first win.
Big Nick is off the mark with his first goal.
Thought he looked tidy before running out of steam just after the hour mark.
Should have been more comfortable at half time after a nervy start.
Our other big Nick with two huge saves in the opening exchanges.
Sandro very unlucky just before the break, he was my MOTM.
Second half was a bit disjointed but we saw out the game.’
The Armchair Fan:
‘Absolutely delighted with that!
We played well and it’s always good to see a new striker score on his debut.
Our season has officially started, now bring on Barcelona!’
Tony Mallabar:
‘First of all thanks to the young lad who picked up my glasses and waited until the end to look for a desperate bloke. Cheers young un.
Onto the game and it’s a win with Tonali man of the match.
However, what saddened me was Wolves only bring 2,000 up, a great club and fans just like us. Unfortunately, sold the dream under foreign owners.
And never going to compete in the current circumstances.’
David Punton:
‘A first win of the season and Nick Woltemade with the vital goal on debut.
It’s been a good day for us ahead of a titanic clash against Barcelona on Thursday.
Woltemade has won himself instant cult status, using his height to thump home a great header from close range.
It was a deserved win, and maybe it should have been by more than one goal. Wolves weren’t great.
Regardless, it’s three points to get the season really up and running after a tawdry international break.
The big German is off to a fantastic start, helping us to overcome the cruel blow of losing Wissa to a knee injury.
Btw, I loved the fact Nick opted for the long sleeves!’
Mark Jankowski:
‘A well needed three points from a performance that laboured at times.
Nick Woltemade bagged a debut goal and with the exception of Sandro Tonali was probably the best player on the pitch.
We’ll need to play better moving forward but we’re off the mark and so is our new striker.’
Jamie Smith:
‘Another uninspiring watch but one of these where the result is God.
Nailing our first win, however ugly, is the end result and threat will do ahead of the stardust of Thursday night.
Signings from abroad can sometimes struggle to adapt so Big Nick weighing in with a debut goal could be massive for his confidence and his future at Newcastle.
A very solid all round debut that was only overshadowed by a couple of outstanding defensive moments (Schar’s interception to deny a certain goal was utterly magnificent) and a classic wing display from the ever reliable Jacob Murphy.
I’ll take that.’
