Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has been dealt a potential blow ahead of the Magpies’ trip to Arsenal on Saturday.

Newcastle star Anthony Gordon missed training on Tuesday, according to the Daily Mail.

The Englishman was missing during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat by Bournemouth at St James Park due to a hip injury.

It remains to be seen whether Gordon will be fit enough to return to action for the Toons when they take on the Gunners this weekend, and Howe and the fans will be hoping for some good news.

Newcastle have lost each of their last three Premier League games and will be desperate to return to winning ways sooner rather than later.

Arsenal are also in need of a win after back-to-back league defeats allowed Manchester City to close down the gap between them.

A defeat for the Magpies could all but rule them out of qualification for Europe next season, and Howe already has a major injury blow to deal with as Tino Livramento is facing a battle to play again this season.

The Newcastle defender was forced off with a problem in his thigh area at the weekend and a second scan is needed to determine the full extent of his injury.

He is out of the Arsenal game and could return for the final couple of games of the season if his injury is not too serious.

Newcastle take on Brighton & Hove Albion, Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Fulham in their remaining games after the Gunners’ match, and they could do with Gordon and Livramento in those fixtures.

They are currently 14th in the table after 33 matches and can still clinch a spot in the top-seven with just six points between them and seventh-place Chelsea.
