Jason Pettigrove, in his exclusive report for CaughtOffside, has stated that Newcastle United are interested in signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Magpies will have to pay an amount of €80 million in order to sign the striker.

Newcastle United want Hugo Ekitike

Newcastle United’s star striker, Alexander Isak, is attracting interest from multiple clubs in the Premier League. He has been performing at his best for the club, and the Magpies are demanding at least €150 million to sell him. Although the interested clubs are not willing to pay that much, the Swede might be on his way out of the club in the upcoming summer, and hence Newcastle need a replacement for him.

Ekitike is also in sensational form for Frankfurt. Ekitike has scored 12 goals in 22 matches so far in the Bundesliga 2024/2025 season. Overall, his goals scored per 90 minutes is 0.64. Moreover, Ekitike’s total G/A (goals + assists) is 15 for this season. His goal involvement equates to 0.8 per 90 minutes. His non-penalty xG per 90 minutes is 0.61.

Is it a good move?

Ekitike is a young forward with serious flair, sleek, skillful, and brimming with promise. At 22, he has got a striker’s instinct, popping up with goals and clever runs. The striker is quick, loves taking on defenders, and has a smooth touch that screams confidence. His PSG stint didn’t fully click, but that’s more about fit than talent—he’s still got bags of potential. Tall yet agile, he’s a nightmare for centre-backs. If Newcastle grabs him, they’re getting a hungry kid who could blossom into a star with the right minutes and trust.

Spending €80 million on Hugo Ekitike could be a bold move for Newcastle United, but it’s a tough call to justify. He’s young, talented, and banging in goals at Frankfurt this season. It clearly proved that he can deliver the goods. Yet, €80 million is a hefty chunk, even with their Saudi backing. If they are cashing in on Isak, Ekitike’s a decent shout, but splashing that much on a kid still proving himself feels risky. They would need him to hit the ground running to make it worth it.
