Tottenham can book their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-final tonight as they visit Premier League rivals Newcastle United. The draw was not particularly kind to Spurs - where many of their top-flight contemporaries were matched with lower division sides, Thomas Frank’s men were handed a lengthy trip to the north-east, just three days after facing Everton away from home.

A 3-0 win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium is comfortably Spurs' best result in recent weeks, after a challenging run saw them drop points in four of their five matches before visiting Merseyside. Newcastle have proven something of a bogey team for Spurs in recent seasons, though. Eddie Howe’s Magpies, the reigning Carabao Cup champions, have come out on top against Tottenham in five of their last six meetings, and have not lost at home since 2021.

Newcastle’s form has been up-and-down this season, though they come into this tie with four wins in their last five. They eased past Bradford City to reach this stage of the competition and left it late to beat a struggling Fulham side in the Premier League last weekend.
