Three Tottenham Hotspur supporters’ groups have urged the club not to appoint Roberto De Zerbi as head coach, citing his public defence of Mason Greenwood.

According to NY Times, Spurs are pursuing De Zerbi, out of work since leaving Marseille on 11 February, as they weigh alternatives to Igor Tudor. Indications are he would prefer to return in the summer.

Proud Lilywhites, Women of the Lane and Spurs Reach argued that any appointment must reflect club values, warning that defending Greenwood risks downplaying the seriousness of events and shaping an unwelcoming culture. They called for accountability and leadership consistent with stated commitments to respect, safety and inclusion.

De Zerbi coached Greenwood at Marseille after the forward’s move from Manchester United in July 2024 and regularly endorsed him in public. He said before the transfer he did not know Greenwood’s background and later described him as a good person.

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022, then charged that October, before the Crown Prosecution Service discontinued the case in February 2023, citing withdrawn key witnesses and new material. He denied all allegations. United did not select him again, loaned him to Getafe in September 2023, then sold him to Marseille the following summer in a deal worth up to €31.6 million.

Tudor has taken one point from five league games since succeeding Thomas Frank, leaving Spurs one point above the relegation zone with seven matches remaining.
