The Canaries missed out on a play-off place, but Philippe Clement’s side climbed the table to finish ninth.

A disastrous first half of the term had the Norfolk outfit in danger of being in a relegation battle, but the 52-year-old’s arrival in November led to the team turning things around.

Norwich missed out on a top six finish by eight points, and will now want to use the summer transfer window to help bridge that gap.

The club have also been boosted by the change in the play-off format for 2026/27, which will see third to eighth qualify for the competition.

Clement will be looking to guide Norwich back to the top flight for the first time since 2022, and they're certainly well-placed to do so with the right transfer business this summer - what the Norfolk outfit will not want to do however is have to cash in on any star players.

It has been reported by Corriere della Sera - via Sport Witness - that Lazio are keen on a deal to sign Oscar Schwartau this summer.

The Italian club are eyeing a loan move with an option to buy for the winger, who has spent the last two seasons with the Canaries.

It’s believed that the deal could become a loan with an obligation to buy provided certain criteria is met, for example his number of appearances, and that is similar to the kind of move that was completed by Jonathan Rowe in the summer of 2024, who joined Marseille from the Canaries initially before making it permanent a year later.

Championship across the last two years.

The Dane has contributed five goals and two assists, and was a key part of turning things around under Clement in the second half of the last term.

Schwartau has a contract with Norwich until June 2028, with the club also holding the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months, giving them a lot of leverage in any upcoming negotiations.

It’s understood that new manager Gennaro Gattuso is keen to bring in the Norwich star due to his versatility, as he will allow the Italian to utilise multiple formations.

It remains to be seen whether the Canaries could be convinced to sanction a loan with an option to buy, or whether they would prefer a clean, permanent deal - the Canaries may also hold firm and look to keep the attacker at Carrow Road for another campaign.

A loan with an option to buy clause is flimsy, and there are no guarantees that Norwich will ultimately receive the permanent transfer fee from that arrangement.

If the Canaries are going to let someone so important go, then they will surely want to hold out for a firmer deal than that.

The winger could be a key part of the team next season, and replacing him would prove quite difficult, so bringing in a major fee this summer would help in that pursuit.

It would be surprising if Norwich went along with this unless there were some strong assurances that the criteria needed to make it an obligation clause were going to easily be met.
