After a season of churn featuring four head coaches, Vitor Pereira steadied Nottingham Forest, securing Premier League survival with two games to spare and reaching the Europa League semi-finals in the club’s first European campaign for three decades, according to NY Times.
In January, a 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa turned on keeper John Victor’s misjudgement, which gifted John McGinn and caused a season-ending knee injury.
In April, Forest dismantled Sunderland 5-0, four scored in 20 minutes, with Igor Jesus involved in three, swelling goal difference and briefly opening an eight-point cushion.
In May, eight changes at Chelsea showed Europa League priority before a semi-final second leg at Aston Villa, yet the reshuffled side won 3-1. On 10 May, Elliot Anderson’s goal in a 1-1 with Newcastle clinched safety, and Pereira said he believed the midfielder, playing days after his mother’s funeral, wanted to honour her.
Off the pitch, Edu’s arrival as global head of football preceded upheaval. Nuno Espirito Santo left three games in, Ange Postecoglou endured 39 winless days and Sean Dyche came and went before Pereira’s mid-February stabilising impact. The review graded the season C-, with Pereira B+.
Attention now turns to Elliot Anderson, World Cup-bound and who will attract serious interest from Manchester City and Manchester United. Marinakis is understood to value him at more than £110 million. Off-field, Edu is expected to depart and Craig Mulholland is set to join the Scottish FA.
