Nottingham Forest suffered an early setback when Jair Cunha hobbled off in the opening minutes against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League. The defender was replaced by Nikola Milenkovic on nine minutes at the City Ground.

Jair had started in a three-man defence alongside fellow Brazilians Murillo and Morato, but required treatment after apparently rolling his ankle shortly after kick-off.

This is the first leg of the last 16. Forest previously lost 3-2 at home to the Danish side in the league phase.

They went into the tie looking to atone for October’s defeat, when Ange Postecoglou was still in charge.

Much has changed since then, with Vitor Pereira now in the hot seat as he juggles a Premier League survival fight with a European campaign.

Balancing both fronts has been testing. Forest reached the last 16 with an aggregate victory over Fenerbahce, but their domestic position remains precarious.

Pereira made three changes from last Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at Manchester City, bringing in Morato, Omari Hutchinson and Callum Hudson-Odoi for Ibrahim Sangare, Neco Williams and Milenkovic.
