Nuno Espirito Santo has urged West Ham United to find a solution to the Lucas Paqueta situation with haste in the January transfer window.
The attacking midfielder has been linked with a return to Brazil this month. Flamengo are reportedly interested in signing the 28-year-old.
Paqueta was left out of the matchday squad for the Hammers’ win over QPR in the third round of the FA Cup last weekend, fuelling speculation over his future.
The Telegraph claim that Flamengo are expected to offer around £30m and could even raise the fee to nearly £35m. The report adds that West Ham are “prepared to sell” the player, but only if they can retain him on loan until the end of this season.
Nuno is adamant that the Brazilian needs to remain at the club as they bid to stave off relegation from the Premier League.
“I think it’s a situation that we have to solve, all of us at the club have to solve,” the West Ham boss said at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Tottenham Hotspur away on Saturday.
“We always want our best players to be involved and Lucas is one of our best players, so let’s try to solve the situation.
“It’s a solution that we have to find. Us as a club, the player, myself.
“My job is to prepare the team and to prepare the team with the best players that we have. Lucas is one of the best players. My job is to try and take the best out of all of them.”
