Manchester United have confirmed that Bruno Fernandes has won the September Player of the Month award, while Benjamin Sesko has claimed the Goal of the Month prize.
United played just three fixtures in September, coming up against Manchester City, Chelsea and more recently, Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Ruben Amorim’s men were beaten 3-0 by their cross-town rivals on 14 September, before responding with a big 2-1 home victory over Chelsea.
However, United failed to build on the momentum gained and they slipped back, suffering a 3-1 loss to Brentford last weekend.
Fernandes inspired United’s victory against Chelsea, scoring the first goal of the match, which also brought up his century for the club. He got on the end of a ball from Patrick Dorgu and produced a fine finish to beat Filip Jorgensen from close range.
Despite missing a crucial penalty against Brentford, 37% of voters still backed the skipper, edging out Dorgu, who received 35%. Sesko took 28%.
Meanwhile, Sesko’s strike in the thrashing at Brentford’s hands has seen the Slovenian win United’s October Goal of the Month award.
Sesko tested Kelleher with two shots before his persistence paid off as the third found the back of the net.
It was a milestone strike for Sesko as it marked his first for the club, having signed for the Red Devils in the summer from RB Leipzig.
Sadly for the 22-year-old, it didn’t matter too much as United failed to get anything out of the contest.
Sesko’s strike logged 39 per cent of the vote, with Fernandes’ goal vs. Chelsea coming in at second with 38 per cent. Casemiro’s header against the Blues managed 23 per cent.
United are back in action on Sunday when they host newly-promoted Sunderland. Kick-off is at 3pm.
