The Executive Committee of the French Football Federation (FFF) has decided to set the date for the 2026 Coupe de France final as Friday 22th May at 9 pm, the governing body has confirmed. The Stade de France, which has hosted the competition’s finals since it opened in 1998, has once again been chosen to host the final of this 109th edition.
Originally scheduled for Saturday 23rd, the match was eventually brought forward by a day due to the closure of public transport the following day as a result of the ‘Grand Paris’ construction works. At one point, there was even talk of moving the match to Lyon.
An option that would certainly have been preferred by France Télévisions, the broadcaster of the event, which will be showing the Rugby Challenge Cup final this same Friday. Consequently, if a French club were to qualify for the latter, two major French sporting events could end up competing for airtime on the public service broadcaster. Something that was not appreciated internally.
