Real Madrid defender Eder Militao’s stunning strike against RCD Espanyol has been named the La Liga EA SPORTS Goal of the Month for September.
The Brazilian defender produced one of the standout moments of the season so far with a thunderous effort from distance that set Real Madrid on course for victory against the Catalan club.
The goal came in the 22nd minute of the clash at the Santiago Bernabéu with the score still 0-0.
Militao picked up the ball nearly 40 meters from goal, shook off two challengers with a swift movement, and unleashed a powerful drive that flew past the Espanyol goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
The Brazilian centre-back’s golazo paved the way for Xabi Alonso’s side to secure a 2-0 win, with the strike now recognised as the most spectacular goal of the month for September across La Liga.
Militao thus wins the Goal of the Month award for the first time in his career, beating two other incredible goals in the final vote: Nicolas Pepe’s strike against Celta Vigo and Julian Alvarez’s free kick against Espanyol.
Militao succeeds FC Barcelona player Pedri, who won the award last month.
The Brazilian defender missed last night’s UEFA Champions League clash against Kairat Almaty, after picking up a knock in the derby defeat against Atletico Madrid over the weekend. But the expectation is that he will be available for the upcoming league game vs Villarreal.
