FC Barcelona came away with a crucial victory in La Liga against Atletico Madrid at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. With the opposition reduced to ten men in the first half and sitting in a very low block, Barça had to grind their way to the win.
A 2-1 victory was secured thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Robert Lewandowski. Following Real Madrid’s defeat to Mallorca earlier today, this was exactly the kind of result Barça needed, and they are now seven points clear at the top of the La Liga table.
Here are the ratings for the Barcelona players.
Starting XI:
Joan Garcia: 7.0/10
His distribution was always composed, and he did well to keep the Atletico Madrid players away from his goal as well. Unfortunately, he could not do much about the goal that he conceded.
Ronald Araujo: 5.5/10
Had to be taken off before the first half ended due to some discomfort, and he was not able to leave a memorable impression either way.
Pau Cubarsi: 8.0/10
Quite clever with his passing, and his defensive awareness was great as well today. Delivered in every single way that was expected of him, and never lost his composure during the match as well.
Gerard Martin: 7.0/10
A bit fortunate not to get sent off early in the second half, but thankfully, a replay provided the clarity that was needed to dismiss the red card that was originally given. Beyond that, he had a solid performance.
Joao Cancelo: 8.0/10
Despite struggling on the defensive side of things at the start of the game, Joao Cancelo completely stepped up in the second half. It was thanks to his individual brilliance that Barcelona ultimately won the game.
Eric Garcia: 7.0/10
Solid display from Garcia, who showed great resolve in terms of fighting in his duels, and his distribution was immaculate as well. Also covered shifts in both midfield and defense during this game.
Pedri: 8.0/10
Despite it not being his best performance for La Blaugrana, Pedri still managed to shine. During his moments of brilliance, the Spaniard did well to deconstruct Atletico Madrid’s structure and weave his way through their players.
Lamine Yamal: 8.0/10
Danced around the field and created some insane chances for his teammates as well. At least two of his passes should have resulted in goals, especially the trivela pass he provided to Fermin Lopez. Immense display from the youngster.
Fermin Lopez: 6.5/10
Conceded a yellow card during the first half, and that was likely the reason why he did not play the second half of the game. However, he showed some promising link-up play with his teammates, especially Lamine Yamal.
Dani Olmo: 8.5/10
Played some scintillating passes and was always there to present his teammates with good opportunities. Also provided the perfect assist to Marcus Rashford for Barça’s first goal of the game.
Marcus Rashford: 8.5/10
Delivered an impactful performance in Raphinha’s absence, and made his time count with a goal as well. Moreover, it came at the perfect time, as well as the Catalan giants had to rebound after the opposition scored first.
Substitutes:
Marc Bernal: 7.0/10
Looked really promising and did well in midfield. Unfortunately, had to be taken off due to an injury or some kind of discomfort.
Ferran Torres: 5.5/10
Should have done better with the chances that came his way and delivered a rather underwhelming performance.
Jules Kounde: 6.5/10
Added some physicality to the right flank, and the Frenchman did well to support Lamine Yamal there.
Gavi: 6.0/10
Looked sharp and made some clever passes as well.
Robert Lewandowski: 7.5/10
Came into the game late but had made the impact that was needed out of him. Scored the late winning goal for the team, and it gave Barcelona three crucial points.
