Andrée Jeglertz’s side travel across the continent on Saturday 8 August at 19:00 (UK) as the 2026/27 campaign comes into view.

The reigning Barclays Women’s Super League champions and FA Cup holders will be eyeing a double defence of our trophies as well as rubbing shoulders with European football’s elite in the Champions League.

HISTORY

Fiorentina Women were founded in 2015 and became the first ever professionally affiliated women’s club in the history of Italian football.

Since then, they have won four honours which includes the 2016/17 Serie A title and Coppa Italia double as well as another Italian cup in 2017/18 and the 2018 Suppercoppa Italiana.

2025/26 CAMPAIGN

Fiorentina narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification last season, finishing fourth in Serie A and only three points behind Juventus who sealed the last European place.

Their offensive record of 33 goals scored was the joint third-highest amount in the league, but their inability to keep them out hindered their pursuit of the title and a return to continental football.

However, their standout performance across the campaign was when they put eventual champions Roma to the sword, 5-2, which was the only defeat the table-toppers suffered.

ONE TO WATCH

Danish midfielder Sofie Bredgaard enjoyed a fantastic Serie A campaign in 2025/26.

By the end of the campaign, she had scored six goals and registered six assists in 17 outings with her tally of providing for teammates the joint second-highest across the division.

She will also be a familiar face to Therese Sjogran, Rebecca Knaak and Eartha Cumings with Bredgaard a member of the Rosengard team who won the 2022 and 2024 Damallsvenskan titles.

EUROPEAN PEDIGREE

Fiorentina have competed in the Champions League on five occasions and have reached the last-16 in three of those campaigns.

In European competition, the Italian outfit have faced English teams three times, but have failed to win any of those ties after losing to Chelsea in 2018/19, Arsenal in 2019/20 and City in 2020/21.

The last time they were in the prestigious tournament was in 2024/25 and they beat Brondby and Ajax in first-round qualifying before losing to Wolfsburg on aggregate in the second round.

MANAGER

Appointed before the 2025/26 campaign, Fiorentina’s progress under manager Pablo Pinones-Arce has already seen him rewarded with a new contract lasting until the summer of 2028.

After a playing career which was predominantly spent in Sweden but also took in spells in Italy and Denmark – he began coaching in 2016 as the assistant coach at Hammarby’s men’s team.

A spell as head coach of Frej followed in 2019, and after a year, he took charge of Hammarby Women and it was in charge of the Swedish club where he enjoyed immense success, taking them into the top-flight in his first season.

The following season, Pinones-Arce led Hammarby to a memorable domestic double, clinching both the Swedish league title and the Swedish Cup.

In 2024, he departed to the United States to take up the position of Technical Director at Houston Dash before taking the reins of Fiorentina in 2025.

STADIUM

Fiorentina play their home matches at Stadium Curva Fiesole which is based in the club’s state-of-the-art training centre, Rocco B. Commisso Viola Park and it hosts 3,000 supporters.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

City have strong record against Fiorentina, winning both legs of our last-16 tie in 2020/21.

In the first at the Joie Stadium, goals from Lauren Hemp, Ellen White and Sam Mewis gave us a strong 3-0 advantage heading into the reverse fixture in Italy.

The Blues continued to show our quality even with a healthy lead and White’s brace, Caroline Weir’s penalty and Mewis double earned us a 5-0 win and 8-0 aggregate triumph.
