Orlando City ‘in advanced talks’ for Flamengo defender Iago | OneFootball

Flamengo under-20 captain Iago could be on his way out, with advanced negotiations to sell the centre-back to Orlando City, GE reports. The deal is said to be awaiting only approval from president Bap.

Iago is under contract until the end of 2026 but has not been given first-team minutes. Having completed his under-20 spell, he has been looking for opportunities under Filipe Luís.

At present, Léo Ortiz, Léo Pereira, Vitão and Danilo are the leading options in defence. João Victor, a fellow academy graduate, is also pushing for game time.

Iago has been a standout in Flamengo’s academy, winning two Libertadores and two Club World Cups, plus one Brasileirão, a Copa do Brasil Sub-17 and a Supercopa do Brasil Sub-17.

He remains available as Flamengo face Vasco on Wednesday 21 in the third round of the Carioca. Kick-off is at 21:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã.
