Oswaldo Vizcarrondo was appointed Venezuela head coach on Tuesday, the Venezuelan federation announced.
Aged 41, he succeeds Argentine Fernando 'Bocha' Batista, who paid the price for the team's failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The former centre-back played in Venezuela, Paraguay, Colombia, Argentina and Mexico, earning 80 caps and scoring 7 goals for the national team.
He later moved to France, featuring for Nantes from 2013 to 2017, then Troyes from 2017 to 2019.
Vizcarrondo trained as a coach at Nantes, served briefly as Pierre Aristouy's assistant in 2023, and also managed the women's team. Since 2023 he had led Venezuela's U17 side.
