Pablo Hernandez has committed his future to CD Castellón, signing a new contract until 2029 after their play-off heartbreak. The Leeds United favourite has settled his managerial plans following a stirring first campaign in charge.
The club said in a statement that Hernandez and his assistant, Sergi Ripollés, have renewed terms, crediting the pair with transforming results and taking the Orellut to the LaLiga EA Sports promotion play-offs.
Hernandez began with Castellón’s reserves, winning promotion, then stepped up to the senior side after a poor start under Johan Plat. He sparked a promotion push and took the second-tier team to the semi-finals, where Almería struck a 94th-minute winner.
Known in West Yorkshire as El Mago, he intends to continue the project at Estadio SkyFi Castalia. Since his arrival the team’s record reads 20 wins, 10 draws and seven losses, and a recognisable, competitive style has taken hold.
President Bob Voulgaris welcomed the agreement, describing Hernandez as a role model who understands the club and stressing continuity as a priority. The emphasis is on stability and faith in the coach to lead the project.
Hernandez spoke of the pride of leading his hometown club and vowed to give everything to repay the supporters in Castelló de la Plana. Former team-mate Luke Ayling hailed the news on social media, calling him “Magic man”.
