Palmeiras have moved 18-year-old Ivorian centre-back Koné into their first-team support group amid injuries at the back.

According to Globo.com, the defender trained with the senior squad at the Academia de Futebol on Monday afternoon.

With Bruno Fuchs and Benedetti sidelined, only regulars Gustavo Gómez and Murilo are available in central defence.

Standing 1.93m and left-footed, Koné is viewed as a prospect within the academy. Joining the support group does not make him part of the first-team squad.

He will train with the seniors and could be selected by Abel Ferreira, but retains his under-20 schedule and will return to the youth side when the club want to give him minutes.

Palmeiras face Cerro Porteño of Paraguay on Wednesday at 21:30 Brasília time in the fifth round of the Conmebol Libertadores group phase. Abel Ferreira’s team lead the group and a win would seal qualification with one game to spare.
